In December 2022, INMA and Google News Initiative (GNI) awarded their third annual Elevate Scholarship to 50 news media professionals from 31 countries. This series features these impressive media professionals who are shaping our industry.

As product manager for India-based Punjab Kesari, Er Maninder Singh specialises in understanding needs and then identifying the gaps between those needs and the company’s offerings — then comparing it with what competitors offer.

“Based on the findings, I propose the new product/new properties/improvements which can be developed and introduced in our newspaper,” he said.

Singh is experienced in creating and implementing customer engagement initiatives and identifying new business opportunities for the company, analysing the business performance, and suggesting actions to help top management achieve their short- and long-term goals.

He is also skilled in customer service and data analysis in addition to his product management skills and has a demonstrated history within the newspaper industry. Singh enjoys market research, product feedback, business analysis, and product mappings with competitors.

“I am result oriented and motivated; I consistently exceed targets and expectations by being methodical, conscientious, and meticulous,” Singh said. 

Singh aspires to explore the media business under the leadership of world media groups such as The Guardian and is eager to build upon the skills he already has: “From the Elevate Scholarship programme, I want to acquire skills in content quality and product management.”
