In early 2022, NWT Media launched a campaign to raise funds for the people of Ukraine who were suffering the effects of the ongoing war in the country. The response from our readers was overwhelming, and we raised 1 million Swedish crowns (US$100,000) from our readers to donate to the Red Cross.

In addition, NWT Media added one Swedish crown for every donated crown. In total, the readers and we donated 2 million Swedish crowns (US$200,000).

Our fundraising efforts helped to save lives in Ukraine. The money was used to provide food, water, and medical supplies to those in need. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, many people received the care they desperately needed during a difficult time.

Journalism in action

But we didn’t stop there. As a company committed to journalistic integrity and the power of the press, we knew that we had a responsibility to cover the war and bring attention to the struggles of the Ukrainian people. So we launched a major journalistic effort to cover the conflict and its impact on the people of Ukraine.

We sent three teams of reporters and photographers to the front lines of the conflict, where they documented the daily struggles of the Ukrainian people and the devastating effects of the war on their lives. They talked to soldiers and civilians, visited hospitals and schools, and reported on the efforts of aid organisations to provide relief to those in need.

We also launched a marketing campaign to raise awareness of the conflict and our efforts to support the people of Ukraine. We painted the front pages of our 16 newspapers and Web sites in the colours of the Ukrainian flag and encouraged our readers to donate to our fundraising campaign.

The response was incredible. Our readers were moved by the stories we shared and the images we published, and they were inspired to contribute to our fundraising effort. Thanks to their generosity, we were able to double our initial donation and provide even more support to the people of Ukraine.

More than money

But the impact of our campaign went beyond just the funds we were able to raise. By shining a spotlight on the conflict and the struggles of the Ukrainian people, we were able to raise awareness. We helped bring attention to the human toll of the conflict and the urgent need for a peaceful resolution to the war.

As a media company, we have a responsibility to use our platform to promote social good and to make a positive impact on the world around us. Our campaign to support the people of Ukraine was a powerful example of this commitment, and we are proud to have made a difference in the lives of those affected.
