Overview of this campaign

The Future Series is an advocacy program across News Corp Australia that positions our brands at the heart of the community and campaigns for localised issues. Traditionally, (prior to 2022) the Future series ran under different campaign names with different creative direction across all markets, taking a fragmented and siloed approach. Tasked with scaling these commercial advocacy programs, we brought all the events under one campaign name and created a brand architecture that could be rolled out across all markets, whilst remaining localised.

Over the last 12 months News Corp has continued to evolve with their communities, campaigning for what’s important to local residents, business and the region as a whole. In FY23, the Cairns Post, Townsville Bulletin, Gold Coast Bulletin, NT News, Geelong Advertiser and the Hobart Mercury all launched a Future Series campaign (in addition to to the programs already established in Brisbane, Western Sydney and Sydney). This series aimed to bring together key stakeholders from around the region to advocate for the region.

The Future Series campaign is a compelling news series and major public events program advocating for the legacy priorities of the region it is representing. Its purpose is to represent the views of business and the community and highlight the need for government and decision makers to move decisively on projects that will benefit the region.

The renewed approach has unified the Future Series, with cohesive branding across all event touchpoints from pre-promotion to on-site at the event, simplifying the creative process and presenting an opportunity for a national naming rights sponsor to align to the whole series.

Our mission is to Inform, Advocate and Inspire to help build a better Australia for all Australians.

Results for this campaign

The success of our Future Series campaign is measured, firstly, by the outcomes it delivers for the community, and the leadership role our masthead takes to make those actions a reality.

The Future Series success can be categorised under three pillars: community support, engagement and advocacy. In 2023, this series hosted a total of 1,987 guests, from a range of careers and disciplines, across 9 states and regions, discussing topics that range from Infrastructure, health and defence to renewable energy and education.

News Corp’s high impact news coverage, campaign marketing and event PR amplified the campaign’s purpose, beyond event attendees, to an audience of millions more. Beyond the use of News Corp’s owned assets, we leveraged key partnerships with national radio and television broadcasters. A partnership with Sky News also furthered this reach with live broadcasting elements of each event.

Through our shared vision to create impact and change in our states and regions we invited businesses to join the discussion on topics that matter. With corporate partnerships with trusted brands from TechnologyOne, Westpac and The Star Entertainment Group to local airport corporations, governments, councils and media, the impact of this series was felt far and wide.

Our mastheads led the conversations and drove awareness and change for the communities they serve, giving like-minded businesses a voice to move their city forward, building a better city, state and region for its people.
