In early January, New York Times CEO Mark Thompson told INMA members about what has surprised him the most in his eight-year tenure at The Times: “I think that we are often all guilty of assuming we know the future.” Eight weeks later, those words proved true as everything changed for The New York Times with the spread of the COVID-19 virus and its rippling economic effects. On Wednesday, April 15, Mark has agreed to re-join INMA for an exclusive interview that focuses on The New York Times’ response to the coronavirus: What they are doing about it, what processes and systems are needed to survive and thrive, what’s happening to print and digital sales, and some tips for peer media companies in their responses.
