Aftenposten’s Battle with Facebook

Presented by Espen Egil Hansen, Editor-in-Chief and CEO, Aftenposten

Originally presented: 15 December 2016

In September 2016, Facebook prevented Norway’s leading newspaper from posting an iconic photo from the Vietnam War as, by algorithmic standards, it was “child pornography.” Aftenposten pushed back – so loudly that Facebook quickly changed its standards. The episode became the defining microcosm of the broader battle media companies are having with Facebook, gaining unprecedented international attention. The CEO and editor-in-chief of Aftenposten who led the campaign against Facebook, Espen Egil Hansen, presents a special Webinar looking at lessons learned from the episode and what media companies should be doing to push back.
