The Future of Fact-Checking in News Organisations

Presented by Aaron Sharockman, Executive Director, Politifact, Angie Drobnic Holan, Director, International Fact-Checking Network

About this Webinar

The future of fact-checking after Meta’s decision to eliminate its fact-checking programme is the focus of an INMA Newsroom Transformation Initiative Webinar featuring Aaron Sharockman, executive director at Politifact, and Angie Drobnic Holan, fact checker at International Fact-Checking Network.

Meta, which owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, announced in January that it would end its longstanding fact-checking programme, which was originally instituted to help curtail the spread of misinformation across its social media apps. Meta provided funding to 10 partner organisations, primarily news providers, to perform fact-checks for its platforms.

The decision has led to conversations and concerns about misinformation/disinformation and how to prevent its spread in the wake of Meta’s change.

In this Webinar moderated by INMA Newsroom Transformation Lead, Amalie Nash, Aaron and Angie will talk about the impact of the decision and how they see the future for fact-checking in newsrooms of all sizes.
