Overview of this campaign

With the launch of the new view in the VOL.AT app, we already want to jump on the trend of portrait and story formats. The goal is to adapt our app to the media usage of tomorrow, to also appeal to young users, and to increase the time our users spend on the news portal.

So in the future, there will be two views of the start page in VOL.AT: The classic start page and the new story mode. Currently, the story view still has to be activated in the settings.

As far as we know, we are the first news platform to implement the story format in this way. The new format not only enables a new, extraordinary user experience, but also holds numerous opportunities for us in the area of new advertising formats.


Results for this campaign

The feature was rolled out before Christmas 2020: on 12/21/2020 for the Android version of the app and on 12/22/2020 for the iOS app. As of today, the new feature has not been officially advertised in the app.

However, we can already see that the time spent in story mode has increased by almost 44 percent. Page views per session also increased by about 37.5 percent. This result satisfies us and we are preparing everything for the official release.

In the future, we can imagine setting up the story format as the default start page of VOL.AT. The classic start page would then only be the alternative view and could be selected in the settings.
