While formats continue to evolve, platforms have started seeing convergence. Dainik Bhaskar set out to know whether the book reading is thriving despite this digital onslaught. 

Results for this campaign

It was one of the largest Book Readership survey done ever in India. It busted many myths:

  • Reading a physical book as a habit still thrives in this tech savvy age as 89% of surveyed readers prefer to buy books from local bookstores while only 10% buy books online.
  • Currently there are different technological mediums which are making reading a whole lot easier, but physical book reading is the best way to enjoy reading as only 8% have ever read books on Kindle or any other mobile app.
  • Indian states with higher literacy rates read more than 2 books a month.
  • Old is Gold: Religion genre still rules the roost well ahead of sci-fi, fiction and biography genres.

On the whole, the study showed that contrary to popular belief that physical book reading as a habit is popular and growing stronger. Book reading remains undeterred with the evolution of different formats.
