Start your Berlin adventure by meeting your tour leads and fellow participants at our Green Study Tour kick-off at Funke Mediengruppe. You’ll be welcomed by Sonali Verma and Gabriel Dorosz, your tour leads. Together, they’ll set the stage for the two days ahead — outlining what to expect, offering an introduction to Germany’s fast-evolving media landscape, and connecting the dots between each stop. Grab a coffee, get to know your group, and get ready — your guides will be your bridge to the hosts, and the spark that keeps this tour moving.

Funke is one of Germany's most important regional publishers, with numerous daily newspapers and a portfolio that includes local and regional brands, magazines, and purely digital offerings. Funke's value lies in making regional journalism profitable on a large scale by sharing technology and data while preserving local brand identity and offering clear subscription options in areas outside major metropolitan cities. Get a look at how Funke balances central platforms with local editorial teams and how pricing, onboarding, churn prevention, and customer loyalty are tailored to regional target groups.

Süddeutsche Zeitung Dossier
Französische Str. 48, 10117 Berlin

The Süddeutsche Zeitung Dossier in Berlin distills in-depth investigative journalism into concise, accessible briefings for a professional audience. Each dossier focuses on a key political, economic, or societal issue, offering clarity, context, and structured insight beyond the daily news cycle. Designed for decision-makers, this format combines journalistic rigor with practical relevance — providing a deeper understanding of complex topics.

Founded in 1978, taz (die tageszeitung) is one of Germany’s most distinctive news organisations, built as a cooperative owned by its readers and employees. Rather than relying on traditional ownership structures, taz operates as a community-driven media company, combining journalism with a strong focus on independence, social issues, and democratic participation. In an era of declining trust and changing revenue models, taz offers a compelling alternative: a newsroom supported by its community, experimenting with reader funding, digital transformation, and new forms of audience engagement.
This session explores how the cooperative model works in practice — and what it means for editorial independence, sustainability, and long-term resilience.
Germany’s media landscape is undergoing profound change, as publishers adapt to declining print revenues, platform dependency, and shifting audience behaviours. This session looks at how leading organisations are responding — from scaling digital subscriptions to redefining newsroom structures and investing in technology and AI. A closer look at how one of Europe’s largest media markets is navigating transformation at scale.
Wrap up the day with drinks alongside your fellow INMA Study Tour participants. A relaxed setting to share insights, spark new ideas, and build connections across our global group.
Tuesday

Go behind the scenes of one of Europe’s most influential news brands. At FAZ’s Berlin office, the visit moves from the iconic atrium into the historic Kaminzimmer — a space where political power and journalism have long intersected.
The focus: building a premium digital product portfolio, sharpening subscription strategy, and transforming the newsroom for a digital-first future.

Forte Digital Germany

Bauer Media Group brings AI out of theory and into real operations. Together with Forte Digital (transformation) and Centinel Analytica (protection), this session explores both sides of AI: - Upside: faster content, smarter workflows, real efficiency gains - Downside: AI bot crawling, content protection, and risk management A practical, no-hype look at how to scale AI while staying in control.

At Correctiv, journalism goes beyond publishing — it activates. Hosted at Publix, Berlin’s hub for media and civil society, this session explores investigative reporting with impact, fact-checking and media literacy, and collaborative journalism models. Here, media becomes a platform for engagement, turning audiences into participants.
Across seven study tour stops and even more interactions with brands and companies, what did Green Study Tour participants learn? What were the insights? This closing session led by Sonali Verma and Gabriel Doerosz will help point to what you should take home the next week.
