About the Town Hall

The Generative AI Town Hall by the International News Media Association (INMA) represents a report card to members and the news industry we serve about what our network has learned in 2025 about the most important subject in media.

The GenAI Town Hall is based on the learnings distilled by Sonali Verma, GenAI Initiative lead for INMA, delving into best practices focused on efficiencies, productivity and new products for newsrooms, advertising and marketing, and operations.

About the GenAI Initiative

INMA’s Generative AI Initiative looks at how media companies are practically using generative AI to strengthen their business – concrete, innovative use cases of GenAI by news publishers … for news publishers.

Among deliverables INMA members have received in 2025:

  • Newsletters and blogs: 26 bi-weekly newsletters and 50+ blogs based on original interviews and insights with GenAI leaders at media companies.
  • Slack channel: Hundreds of posts by Sonali on developments around the news industry with GenAI, along with feedback from INMA members.
  • Webinars: 6 Webinars dissecting the GenAI landscape at media companies, mostly case studies.
  • Reports: A report focusing on key AI trends in the news industry is about to be published. It will highlight publishers’ efforts to harness the power of AI while mitigating risks to their businesses.
  • Master class and workshops: A May master class looked at personalisation, particularly to serve audiences more effectively and supercharge advertising. A World Congress workshop and CEO Roundtable session on the subject focused on the c-suite’s intersection with GenAI.
  • Ask Me Anything sessions: Sonali has conducted more than 30 high-impact Ask Me Anything sessions with INMA corporate members — via Zoom, in person, via e-mail, and by way of a myriad of other member-exclusive channels.
