Visit to NRC Media

NRC Handelsblad, often abbreviated to just NRC, was founded in 1970, after a merger of the Amsterdam newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad and the Rotterdam Nieuwe Rotterdamsche Courant.
In February 2006, NRC Handelsblad started a morning newspaper called NRC•Next, to attract a younger, educated audience who do not read a newspaper every day. NRC•Next experienced early success.
On 7 March 2011, the main flagship newspaper NRC Handelsblad paper changed its format from broadsheet to tabloid, like NRC•Next, and the company has since slowly brought both brands closer together.
In 2015 the NRC Media group was acquired by the Belgian company Mediahuis.
In recent years, they are known the world over for their overhaul of the whole digital subscription strategy. Dropping classic measuring tools for success such as 'circulation figures' for new and more apt KPI's and focussing on long-term relationships with subscribers.

VICE is one of the fastest growing young media brands in the world. Vice Media is a North American digital media and broadcasting company. Originating from the Montreal-based VICE magazine founded in 1994. VICE expanded primarily into youth and young adult–focused digital media, including online content verticals and related web series, the news division Vice News, a film production studio, and a record label among other properties. In 2015 VICE Media was called “a poster child for new-media success — especially when it comes to attracting a valuable millennial audience.”

De Persgroep Netherlands is the largest newspaper publisher in The Netherlands. It is part of "De Persgroep NV"; a media company now active in 3 European countries: De Persgroep Publishing (Belgium), De Persgroep Nederland (Netherlands) and Berlingske Media (Denmark).
Re-branded “De Persgroep” in 1990 in Belgium (pre-1970: Uitgeverij Hoste), the publishing company grew from a national player in Belgium to one of Europe's largest and leading news media companies, active in 3 European states, over the course of 20+ years. In 2013, the annual turnover was 901M EUR. De Persgroep acquired Amsterdam’s city paper Het Parool in 2003 and acquired Mecom Group in 2014; adding PCM Uitgevers in The Netherlands and Berlinske media in Denmark to the portfolio.
De Persgroep Netherlands is the largest of all 3 parts of De Persgroep NV; publishing 3 national newspapers, 7 regionals and a host of other media brands online, TV, etc.

Is the biggest online publisher in The Netherlands with a large selection of online magazines with a total reach of 8 million readers. Their flagship brands include: Ensemble, Culi and Manners.nl.
Publishing company Mediahuis took a minority share in early 2017.

Visit to Telegraaf Media Groep (Mediahuis)

Telegraaf Media Groep (TMG) is one of the largest media companies in the Netherlands, with strong brands such as De Telegraaf (largest newspaper by circulation), DFT, Telesport, Metro, Autovisie, Privé and Vrouw; the online video platform Telegraaf VNDG; regional dailies such as Noordhollands Dagblad and de Gooi- en Eemlander; digital brands such as GeenStijl, Dumpert and Gaspedaal.

TMG is ownder by Flemish media group Mediahuis. During this visit Stury tour participants also hear from Mediahuis and their Belgian flagship brand De Standaard.
