Generative AI has been a whirlwind. Unlike its parent, Artificial Intelligence, generative AI came on the scene suddenly and with much fanfane — and hype and anxiety.
Since January, INMA often has to space apart its generative AI content so as not to overwhelm our members. Everyone wants to write about it. Everyone wants to read about it.
So here's a collection of all we have at this moment in time, which is significant for such a new topic. In addition to two reports, one released in January and another in April 2023, most of INMA's initiative leads have tackled the subject in relation to their own areas of expertise (product, the newsroom, advertising, and data analytics).
Proper media case studies are building slowly. We have some from the BBC in the UK, Schibsted in Scandinavia, Die Presse in Austria, and Dennik N in Slovakia. But much of what we have gathered in these early days consists of explanations of technologies, predictions of its uses and risks, and legal analysis.
It has been said generative AI will change our world as much as the Internet did. Here's what we know so far about how that looks for news media companies.
