PANPA Future Forum

Event description

Senior newspaper executives, editors, and journalists from across Australia and New Zealand attended the one-day Future Forum of the Pacific Area Newspaper Publishers’ Association (PANPA). The day looked exclusively at the business and editorial opportunities for newspapers, with speakers rejecting the temptation to look backwards at the challenging time that their industry has been confronting. This has been an important point to make for a region whose major publishers have continued to register operating profits throughout the financial crisis. While ad revenue has been down the circulation of major newspapers – dailies and weeklies – has performed strongly. Overseas speakers remarked on the positive aspect of the conference, as well as the determined demeanour of delegates to transform their newspapers into enterprises that embrace print, web and mobile with strategies for content and context.
