Lessons from past conferences: don’t try to compete with New York
World Congress Blog | 13 January 2011
INMA has held several events in New York through the years, and one of the lessons learned was not to try to compete with the “city that never sleeps.”
The conference is designed to provide attendees face time for networking, lots of conference programming, and free time to see the city without missing INMA World Congress activities.
For example:
- Many conference attendees will arrive Saturday, May 14.
- There are no scheduled conference activities Sunday afternoon, May 15. Great time for shopping, strolls in Central Park, and the like.
- The Sunday evening, May 15, welcome reception will be held at the Sheraton from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. — early enough for dinner on the town or even the theater.
- The cocktail reception at the conclusion of the day Monday, May 16, should be completed no later than 6:00 p.m., so plenty of time to see the town.
The only night INMA asks of attendees is Tuesday night, May 17: the Awards Dinner. This is a gala affair featuring the presentation of the Silver Shovel Award for volunteer excellence and the INMA Awards featuring the top marketing campaigns from the past year.
Hopefully, we achieve our goals for the week — while giving you ample time to see the Big Apple.
