Global Congress audience tops 32,000 via multiplatform, social media coverage
World Congress Blog | 09 May 2012
Western iMedia fusion journalists wrote, blogged, tweeted, Facebooked, photographed, video produced and otherwise provided comprehensive coverage of the 82nd INMA World Congress for a worldwide audience that topped 32,000 people.
That number compares to the audience of roughly 350 participants on site for the event in Los Angeles.
Both audiences were important to INMA but each was looking for different things from Western iMedia's report on the international media marketing association. The in-house crowd sought interaction through their mobile devices and the ability to react to industry discussions via Twitter and other social networks. The remote audience wanted to follow the program through live-blogging and to review the issues through in-depth articles. Both valued direct experience with experts and thought leaders via produced video documentaries. INMA also wanted to use the coverage to sample participants' attitudes toward corporate change, new business models and long-range revenue expectations.
Tailoring coverage to such complex audiences across multiple platforms, particularly through innovative digital techniques, is what Western iMedia's staff is trained to do. The entrepreneurial editorial startup is operated out of the School of Journalism & Broadcasting at Western Kentucky University. The company provided a team of 10 collaborative storytellers for the INMA project.
Over the course of the three-day event, Western iMedia generated 625 tweets, 275 Facebook updates, 23 full-length online articles, 42 produced videos, four interactive surveys and 23 hours of media-rich live blogging.
