Suneet Johar, vice president of The Times of India, said the news media company’s campaign to reduce traffic noise pollution was all about public health, he explained at INMA’s South Asia News Media Conference in New Delhi.
“The Times of India launched its No Honking drive last year,” Johar said. “The whole objective was to get our readers and citizens to avoid unnecessary honking on the roads.”
Less honking has major health benefits, Johan said, including minimising hearing loss, reducing stress, and reducing high blood pressure.
“We are going to continue with this drive every year, until we achieve our objective of a horn-free India.”
Johar was asked what advice he had for other newspapers looking to do a similar initiative.
“The more the merrier,” Johar answered. The Times of India encouraged all its fellow media companies to join them on their drive — the more people and organisations involved, the better.
