KMTV creates mobile community with interactive app

To not only survive but thrive in this new digital age, organisations of all kinds have had to embrace new ways of thinking and re-evaluate their relationships with their audiences.
Many organisations are now realising the value of digital communities, rather than audiences. Why? Whereas audiences are transient by nature, communities are loyal and engaged. They are more likely to stick with you and your brand in the long run.
But to build digital communities that are sustainable, organisations need the technology that puts innovation and transformation at the heart of everything they do.
Creating a mobile app for KMTV content
KM Media Group is a full-scale multi-media company with a footprint in broadcasting, newspaper, and online publishing. It serves the people of Kent in the U.K.
Publisher’s Toolbox began working with KMTV, KM Media Group’s dedicated TV channel, to create an OTT solution that would put digital community building at the forefront of KMTV’s content strategy.
We were tasked with configuring a branded MobileAppSuite platform for KMTV that would allow users to easily access their video content for live streaming 24 hours a day, seven days a week, from anywhere in the world.
Launched in April 2019, the KMTV mobile app features a bouquet of streaming channels, personalised feed preferences, bookmarking of articles for later viewing, and access to breaking news stories, sports, entertainment, and the channel’s regular news programming on demand.
But more than just a platform to broadcast video content to the community of Kent, the KMTV app goes further, connecting the organisation to its viewership in a way that was not previously possible. The Publisher’s Toolbox integrated suite of digital solutions allows them to grow their digital community on the twin pillars of engagement and innovation.
Harnessing the power of community-generated content
Engagement is the lifeblood of sustainable digital communities. Motivated by the belief that everyone has a story to tell, the KMTV app features the Publisher’s Toolbox mobile media collection platform, MojoReporter, allowing the community of Kent to submit their own digital media to the organisation and become citizen reporters for a day. The community is empowered to tell their stories, with previously unseen content being unlocked via a simple-to-use app interface.
KMTV app users can upload digital posts containing videos, photos, audio files, and GPS locations directly via the app to KMTV’s private cloud dashboard, increasing their digital media IP and protecting the value of their digital assets.
The best stories can be broadcast back to the app community, closing the loop and allowing KMTV to tell stories that normally wouldn’t see the light of day.
Providing unique user experiences
To establish digital communities that are truly passionate, businesses need to create a space in which community members not only share their experiences, but are rewarded for their contributions and their loyalty via unique user experiences that break from the mundane.
Augmenta, the Publisher’s Toolbox augmented reality platform, brings the excitement, bridging the gap between print and digital and creating unique digital connections between KMTV and its viewers.
Without any technical knowledge or know-how, KMTV can create augmented reality campaigns quickly and easily on the Augmenta web dashboard, allowing app users to scan these augmented images with the app to access exclusive video content.
More than just a passive viewing experience, the KMTV app’s Augmenta module empowers a collaborative exchange between KMTV and their viewers — an exciting, sensory experience that leaves a lasting impression.
