Climate change is a significant problem in India, yet its effects on rural areas go unnoticed. Big news outlets focus on cities and global events, leaving behind local struggles. That’s why Ground Report is changing climate journalism in India.

Our goal is to bring these stories to light and ensure they get attention.

Unseen struggles, real climate stories

Climate change affects everyone, but it’s worse for people in remote villages and small towns.

Farmers in Madhya Pradesh struggle with sudden weather changes, making crop growth hard. In Jammu and Kashmir, melting glaciers cause water shortages. Many communities are losing homes due to floods and soil erosion. But their voices are ignored.

Ground Report tries to change this by reporting on their problems and making sure they’re heard.

Ground Report gives a voice to the people who are affected by climate change.

Climate change should be the main topic in future discussions. It’s not just about hotter summers; it affects farming, health, jobs, and homes. Our reporters travel to remote areas to speak with locals, collect information, and present a clear picture of climate change’s impact on daily life. By sharing these reports, we hope to inspire action and inform decision-makers about serious problems.

A major issue in climate journalism is the lack of local reporting. Many news reports come from big cities, but climate change affects small towns and villages more. Crops are failing, forests are disappearing, and water sources are drying up, yet these issues don’t get enough attention.

By going directly to these areas, we ensure these stories are told. From 11,000 feet in the Himalayas, where glaciers are melting, to the drought-hit plains of central India, we have reported from everywhere. Our team has travelled to tough terrains to reveal the realities of climate change.

A different approach

We believe in citizen journalism. Many people see the effects of climate change daily, and their experiences provide valuable information.

Ground Report encourages people to share their stories, photos, and videos. This helps us bring different viewpoints and ensure local problems aren’t ignored. By working with young journalists and citizen reporters, we’re creating a community that cares about the environment and is willing to speak up.

Fake news about climate change is a serious issue. Many false claims spread through social media, making it hard for people to understand the real problems.

At Ground Report, we share only fact-based reports backed by data and expert opinions, ensuring accurate and reliable information. In a time when fake news spreads quickly, responsible journalism is crucial.

Our work has been recognised by several organisations. We’ve received fellowships and grants from the Earth Journalism Network, Reach India Media Fellowship, and Google News Initiative’s startup labs. We were also selected for the IPI Local News Accelerator Programme, confirming the importance of our work.

These opportunities have helped us grow and expand our reach, allowing us to cover more stories and inform more people.

Walking our talk

Besides reporting, we follow eco-friendly practices in our work.

Journalism shouldn’t just report on climate change but should also reduce its environmental impact. We align our work with sustainable values and promote responsible behaviour. We work with local communities to raise climate awareness through workshops, discussions, and partnerships with environmental organisations to create real change.

The future of climate journalism depends on platforms like Ground Report willing to step away from mainstream news and focus on real issues. We will continue to cover environmental problems, highlight underreported areas, and promote responsible journalism.

Climate change is not a distant issue; it is happening now and affecting people’s lives.

Ground Report is committed to telling the stories that are overlooked by other media companies.

By telling these stories, we hope to inspire change, influence policies, and encourage action. Our goal is to ensure no environmental issue is ignored and those most affected by climate change can share their experiences.

Whether you’re a journalist, activist, or someone who cares about the planet, your voice matters. Together, we can create a future where protecting the environment is a top priority.

We invite everyone to join this mission. Climate change isn’t just a problem for scientists and governments. It’s a challenge for all of us. Every small action counts, whether reducing waste, saving water, or sharing information. By working together, we can build a better world for future generations.

Ground Report will continue telling important stories. We’ll travel to the most affected areas, speak to forgotten people, and bring their voices to the world. From 11,000 feet in the mountains to the fields and villages struggling with floods and droughts, we won’t stop reporting.

Journalism can create change, and we’re committed to using it for the planet’s good.
