AI tools bring efficiency, speed, and data-driven insights to news production, enabling journalists to focus on in-depth reporting and storytelling. While concerns about job displacement persist, the future likely holds a collaborative space where journalists harness the capabilities of AI tools for a more efficient, accurate, and engaging news ecosystem.

These tools analyse content, keywords, and user intent, ensuring SEO compliance and brand consistency. Saving time, supporting multilingual content, and providing competitive insights, these tools are indispensable for content creators, SEO professionals, and digital marketers.

The groundbreaking solutions in content personalisation, such as Title Assistants, result in increased click-through rates and longer time spent per view, showcasing the pivotal role of AI in maximising audience engagement.

AI assistants can complete essential tasks, such as suggesting titles that increase click-through rates.
AI assistants can complete essential tasks, such as suggesting titles that increase click-through rates.

Here are four ways our research at Ring Publishing has found AI is transforming newsroom processes:

1. Writing SEO headlines with AI assistance

Crafting SEO headlines is crucial, and AI-powered Title and SEO Title Assistants play a key role. They generate titles based on search engine guidelines, emphasising keyword optimisation and brevity.

The collaborative effort between humans and AI ensures well-constructed titles that attract both readers and search engines, leading to higher click-through rates and improved search engine rankings.

2. Saving time on SEO and titles

Integrating title generators into newsroom workflows is a breakthrough for modern journalism, offering numerous benefits. These AI tools save journalists’ time by suggesting options for main SEO headlines, ensuring deadlines are met without compromising quality.

AI maintains consistency in headline styles, adapts them to the publication’s identity, and improves SEO for greater visibility and organic traffic. User engagement is enhanced through customised headlines, making AI generators essential resources for news editors.

3. Reducing breaking news publishing time

GenAI Bullets Suggestions drastically reduces the time it takes to deliver the latest updates to recipients. These tools can shorten the publishing process by more than five times that of traditional methods.

By quickly analysing incoming data and generating concise and engaging summaries, AI tools enable editors to deliver real-time information with remarkable speed and accuracy. This is particularly valuable in live coverage, as the recent parliamentary elections in Poland demonstrated.

Using assistants to generate summaries allowed us to inform audiences at the speed of the digital age and achieve the best result (fastest updates) among news media in Poland on election night.

4. Increase time spent on articles by 60%

We have implemented the Story Score extension in Ring Publishing CMS, which supports real-time content creation customised to specific editorial guidelines. When creating a story, the editor sees a user-friendly rating indicator in the article footer, ensuring a smooth flow of information.

A user-friendly score appears on stories to ensure it has all the elements needed before publishing.

Interestingly, data analysis revealed a strong correlation between a higher Story Score and increased TS, making this assistant an essential ally for editorial teams. Our reports show a 60% increase in time spent on articles with a high Story Score.

Story Editor’s AI solution focuses on two dimensions of content work: SEO Score, which provides clues on keyword placement, and Editorial Score, which analyses content for its elements and design. Both panels intuitively offer information about elements that can be improved.

How SEO and Editorial Score improve content

Additionally, we use SEO Score and Editorial Score.

SEO Score studies keywords and offers hints on improving the content and where keywords are missing. For example, the editor gets a hint that the first paragraph is missing one keyword. When keywords are added to the paragraph, it immediately offers corresponding feedback.

Editorial Score provides tips for creating and managing content, such as, “The main image has no caption,” “The content contains a minimum of three paragraphs,” The content contains the recommended number of images in the content,” and “The lead contains a minimum of 300 characters.”

This offers valuable recommendations based on defined keywords and article structure rules. The score is presented as a percentage, and items to be improved are shown by colour-coded indicators.
