How Storyful kept its innovative culture after acquisition by News Corp

Editor’s note: INMA’s European Media Conference in Budapest, Hungary, explored what media executives need to know now to put transformation into practice. This video is one in a series showcasing the most important messages from the conference.

“We try to make sense of social,” says Adam Thomas, chief of product at Storyful.

News Corp acquired the company at the end of 2013. The transition from successful digital start-up to being part of a global media company had its struggles.

“How do you help people understand and grasp the things that made you really special before — which for Storyful was a real connection to the mission of what you were doing ... trying to tell the world’s stories in the first person. But also the innovative culture, the things that allowed us to move very rapidly inside a changing industry, inside a changing environment. How do you preserve those things?”
