Patrick Walker, Facebook’s director of media partnerships in Europe, Middle Easter, and Africa, will tackle one of the hottest news topics of the year at INMA World Congress, May 21-23, in New York City — fake news.
As Facebook continues to embrace the responsibility it has as a platform for helping people connect to the content they care about, the company is investing heavily to tackle the “fake news” epidemic. Walker will give INMA delegates an up-to-the-minute update on Facebook’s efforts to help confront the problem — from algorithms to rating systems to credibility partners to media companies.
Before the 2016 U.S. election and the hijacking of fake news as the predominant industry topic, Walker spoke at the Association of Norwegian Editors about Facebook, its relationship with media companies, and his days as a reporter working with old-school technology. (Interestingly, INMA member Espen Egil Hansen, editor-in-chief and CEO of Aftenposten, also spoke at this event, the month after Hansen challenged Facebook’s removal of a photo of a naked child fleeing Napalm during the Vietnam War.)
