Editor’s note: In an ongoing series, INMA is profiling our most engaged members — our super fans — to give members a chance to learn more about each other. Today we profile Nirmam Sanghvi, senior officer for Bennett, Coleman & Co. LTD — Timesascent.com in Mumbai, India.
As part of a well-known legacy organisation, Nirmam Sanghvi said there is no point in time when he doesn’t feel proud about his career. And that’s not all he has to be proud of these days; he’s also proud of his work on the relaunch of Timesascent.com.
The senior officer for Bennett, Coleman & Co. LTD — Timesascent.com in Mumbai, India, is used to juggling multiple projects on a daily basis, but he’s fine with that because he finds monotony stressful: “So my managers let me work on multiple projects [so] there is no monotony for me which keeps me relaxed.”
When he isn’t working, Sanghvi enjoys reading and socialising.
INMA recently caught up with him to learn more about him.
INMA: What big lesson have you learned over the past couple of years that helped shape your plans moving forward?
Sanghvi: It’s not one big lesson but multiple small lessons that have helped me shape my career and build a strong foundation for my future. Planning and prioritising are the key elements to achieving the goals.
It’s never too late to learn a new skill; constantly wanting to upgrade yourself to the needs of the market will always be appreciated and give you a head start. Socialising is a major part that should be focused on. It will be equally helpful to bring new business to the organisation.
INMA: If you had your career to do over again, what would you want to know in the beginning?
Sanghvi: There is no alternative to working, but hard work is not required everywhere. I would want to learn and distinguish where to work hard and where to work smart.
INMA: What makes you excited to get out of bed in the morning?
Sanghvi: I work on a product called timesascent.com [and get excited by] the sheer happiness of building a product and taking it live and seeing people using it and benefitting the same day.
INMA: What is the craziest job or project you’ve ever done in media — and what did you learn from it?
Sanghvi: I am currently working on a quirky campaign. It has multiple legs of promotion including newspaper, meme marketing, influencer marketing, OOH, and cinema advertising with a simple pre-launch message, “Where is Bunty?”
INMA: What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned in your career?
Sanghvi: Always keep upgrading yourself to the new demands of the market.
INMA: If you hadn’t gone into news media, what was your backup plan?
Sanghvi: Getting into the print media was a sheer coincidence. Had I not entered the world of media, I would have opted to go into my family business.
INMA: What is your favourite thing to read?
Sanghvi: I prefer to read fiction in my leisure time, currently I am reading Sita: Warrior of Mithila by Amish Tripathi.
INMA: What do you find the most challenging/interesting about the news media industry right now?
Sanghvi: The most interesting thing about the media industry is its evolution. Every day there is some new product in the market and the marketing manager needs to be aware of it. From Glance to Bobble and now Samsung is also entering this space, the marketing manager needs to be updated on the new products.
