In December 2022, INMA and Google News Initiative (GNI) awarded their third annual Elevate Scholarship to 50 news media professionals from 31 countries. This series features these impressive media professionals who are shaping our industry.
Jackline Alosi joined Africa’s Nation Media Group as an intern in 2011. “I was assigned to the technical department as a studio operator. My roles were camera work, sound operations, vision mixing and master control operations,” recalled Alosi, who now is news/production director and content producer.

Within a year of joining the company, she was assigned a shift supervisory role, which she attributes to being thorough in her job and working easily with others. She always made sure her team delivered all jobs on time, and that paid off for her quickly:
“In 2015, I was promoted to a director’s role. This was actualised through interest, hard work, great leadership skills, a keen eye for details, quick decision making, and, above all, creativity.”
In 2020 Alosi was assigned to be a producer for a show targeting the teen audience. In that role, she had to revamp the programme entirely to fit the target audience — everything from selecting hosts to creating appealing content.
The show has raised the bar higher for their competition, thanks to a great team and amazing group efforts. “At the moment, I am mentoring other young people in the same job line,” Alosi said.
Moving forward, Alosi aspires to take her leadership role a notch higher by reaching a position where she can lead a team and make decisions that would be meaningful and impactful to the organisation that she’s in.
Through her participation in the Elevate Scholarship, Alosi wants to improve her managerial and leadership skills, learn more about content creation and enhance her digital media skills.
