Does winning major award really even happen if it isn’t on social media?
Probably. But sharing it on social certain makes it feel more real — and, in COVID times, these honestly may be the only celebrations some of these winners get. So we were happy to see the social announcements and well wishes ripple around the world late last week as winners of INMA’s “30 Under 30 Awards” were announced.
Honestly, I am so wowed by these young professionals. In addition to making me question what I’ve done with my life, these 30 winners make me feel good about the future of the news media industry. If these are the people we are passing things off to, we are in good hands.
The competition is part of INMA’s Young Professionals Initiative and received 163 applications in July and August, picking the 30 winners who hail from 20 countries, which include six regional“grand prize” winners.
Here is a sampling of their virtual celebrations:
Taneth Evans is head of audience development The Times and Sunday Times in the UK.Sade Muhammad is director of representation and inclusion partnerships at Forbes in the United States. Jostein Larsen Østring is vice president of development at Amedia in Norway.Mara Corbett is creative operations director at Gannett in the United States. Mara was one of six regional grand prize winners.Arthur Rückert is head of data and strategic planning at Grupo RBS in Brazil. Arthur was one of six regional grand prize winners.Siyavuya Mzantsi is an editor at Independent Media in South Africa.Lovisa Bergström is a data scientist and team lead for the analytics team at Dagens Nyheter in Sweden.Sophia Phan is deputy digital editor for The Sydney Morning Herald (Nine) in Australia.Kartikay Khosla is deputy manager at Jagran New Media in India.Stephanie Lievano is business development manager at Corporación La Prensa in Panama.Taras Prokopyshyn is CEO at The Ukrainians in Ukraine.Nicholas O'Connor is publisher and chief revenue officer at AméricaEconomía in Chile.
