INMA 30 Under 30: Glenn McConnell of Stuff
Editor's Inbox | 24 January 2023
In October 2022, INMA awarded 30 young professionals around the world its third “30 Under 30” award as part of its Young Professionals Initiative. This is the 10th in a series of 30 features about the impressive rising media stars who are shaping our industry.

Glenn, a political reporter for Stuff, is from Te Ātiawa and Ngāti Tama iwi (tribes) and began his journalism career at age 18. He quickly became an important voice for rangatahi Māori — the young indigenous people in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Glenn uses his position as a journalist to draw attention to the issues facing young people for several years — even though he only recently turned 25 himself.
As a political gallery reporter focused on te ao Māori issues, Glenn followed Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern around Europe during her a 2022 visit there. And during the anti-mandate protests in Wellington, he visited the tent city at Parliament and wrote extensively about it.
In 2021, at the New Zealand Podcast Awards, Glenn won Silver Awards in the Best New Podcast and Best Culture and Arts Podcast categories for He’ll Be Right, his series about masculinity and the modern man.
Because he covers highly contentious issues in a public space, Glenn is no stranger to receiving threats and hate mail. But he refuses to be intimidated because he has a single, focused mission: giving a voice to the indigenous Māori who have been marginalised and overlooked for so long.
