Overview of this campaign

The Rocketeer Kids Reporter project aimed to rethink news production for young audiences: we create media with children, not just for them. As part of the Rocketeer Kids Festival, children were invited to actively participate in journalism. Through a call published in newspapers and on social media, interested children applied. Eight young reporters were selected to produce content for a regional tv station "a.tv" during the festival.

Before the festival, the children received training in video production, interview techniques, and journalistic practices, guided by professional editors. Equipped with these skills, they reported live from the festival, explored behind the scenes, interviewed festival organizers and special guests, and produced their own broadcast-quality content.

The resulting segments were broadcast on TV, uploaded to the online media library, and shared across social media channels. This multi-platform approach ensured that children, families, and broader audiences could access the content anytime, interact with it, and experience the festival through the eyes of the young reporters. By combining TV, online, and social media, the project maximized reach and meaningful engagement while giving children a real voice in the journalistic process.

A central objective was also to foster media literacy, confidence, and journalistic curiosity among the children. They gained hands-on experience in news production, learned editorial workflows, and developed critical thinking, communication skills, and self-assurance.

Rocketeer Kids Reporter demonstrates how media organizations can implement innovative formats for younger audiences through authentic co-creation, high-quality reporting, and multi-platform engagement. The project highlights that children are not passive consumers but capable contributors, reshaping how news can be produced, experienced, and shared with the next generation.

Results for this campaign

Reach & Visibility: The young reporters’ segments were broadcast on TV, the online media library, and social media, reaching tens of thousands of viewers. Multi-platform distribution ensured broad accessibility and allowed audiences to engage with the content beyond the live broadcast.

High Engagement: Audiences actively interacted with the segments through likes, comments, shares, and direct feedback. The children’s perspective resonated strongly, creating high identification among young viewers and encouraging repeated engagement.

Media Skills Development: All eight young reporters gained hands-on experience in journalism, from conducting interviews and operating cameras to storytelling and content creation. Their confidence, curiosity, and interest in media careers were noticeably strengthened.

Positive Recognition: Media professionals, festival guests, and prominent interview partners praised the children for their professionalism, curiosity, and independence. The editorial team also recognized the initiative as an innovative and valuable learning format.

Long-Term Impact & Role Model: The project demonstrates how active inclusion of young audiences can enhance the quality and authenticity of news content. It serves as a model for future youth-focused initiatives, showing that children can be trusted co-creators and meaningful contributors to journalism.

The initiative creates target group-oriented content by children (but not only for children), strengthens identification with the publication, and builds a sustainable readership for the future. Workshops, online editorial offices, and events also promote community spirit and motivate continuous participation.

In short, Rocketeer Kids Reporters combine education, creativity, and participation and are an outstanding example of how young readers can be won over and encouraged from the very beginning.
