Elevate Africa Initiative 2026

A year of building media education in Africa

INMA aims to elevate Africa's media professionals through regional training, empower young professionals via mentoring, and identify the next generation of media leaders

Scope of the Elevate Africa Initiative

4 topical summits for Africa's media professionals

Join INMA on four Africa-oriented virtual summits focused on newsroom & tech (June 25), media revenue (Feb 5) and audience development (December 4) . These 2.5-hour summits will fuse global best practices with realities in Africa.

Elevating Africa's young professionals

Apply for the Africa Elevate Scholarship that will focus on professional mentorship, navigating the corridors of power, understanding the business of media, and what to know now about using AI. Join four virtual modules and walk away with certification.

Summits that resonate with Africa

INMA envisions two core challenges for news media: access to training and identifying and retaining young professional talent.

Our agenda for 2026 aims to provide free access to 10 hours of programming across three vital subjects:

  • Newsroom & Tech Summit: How news media companies in the region are reinventing newsrooms for the digital age is the focus of this summit which will highlight how to best use data, personalisation, liquid content, and bridge roles. We will look at how to use GenAI to unlock journalistic efficiencies. Click here for more information.
  • Media Revenue Summit: Dive into what the best news media companies are doing to grow digital advertising and subscriptions – notably in markets where this swims against cultural tides. This will feature a global keynote followed by African best-practice sessions. This summit is solely about revenue development. Click here for more information.
  • Audience Development Summit: Encouragement of the use or engagement with a media company’s Web site, mobile site, tablet, apps, newsletters, text alert service, video, audio, social network, print products or the marketing or onboarding of features related to these assets is the focus of this summit. Click here for more information.

Elevating young African professionals

For young professionals new to news media organisations, below the age of 35, and who lack adequate on-the-job training or education, INMA offers Africa Elevate Scholarships.

Join 75 of your peers across four Africa- and mentor-focused virtual modules on navigating the corridors of power, understanding the business of media, and AI applications and cheat sheets. Complete the programme based on local experiences, and walk away with certification.
