Modules

The core benefit of the Africa Elevate Scholars will be four Africa- and mentor-focused virtual training modules focused on four foundational subjects for media professionals. These four modules will strengthen your voice in the workplace and add to the creativity of Africa’s media landscape. Below is our plan for 2025.

TRAINING MODULE 1

Understanding the business of media

Thursday, June 19 | 14:30-16:00 (Cape Town)

The days of a one-dimensional media journey are done. You have to get the synergy to understand the ever-evolving ecosystems. Media companies are armies now with leaders fighting to keep ahead of the constant changes and complexities in order to direct their business heads while building skills to do so. No media group has all the answers, as every multi-faceted approach often presents more questions than solutions. Consequently embracing opinions and successful outcomes are critical to distill the best options for your company’s objectives. INMA has the archives, history, and the media stories ready for you to explore to pick your best direction.

TRAINING MODULE 2

Navigating the corridors of power in media

Thursday, July 24 | 14:30-16:00 (Cape Town)

If you are looking for a media career hand up you need to work hard to shine. Learn everything and anything related to your company and the fluid industry you have chosen. Let your new knowledge light your way with the latest industry skills to enhance your suggestions, reports, and presentations. Knowledge is power always.

TRAINING MODULE 3

What to know now about digital transformation

Thursday, August 14 | 14:30-16:00 (Cape Town)

If your media company is still considering digital transformation now, their sunset is fast approaching. The cost of print and broadcast empires are unsustainable, and hybrid models are essential with a distinct digital lean. Proven outcomes today are improved customer experience with data-driven decision-making, cost savings, empowered resources, and increased agility — all welcome in a media world where competitors must collaborate to remain in the game. INMA has followed media’s digital transformation from the onset and constantly shifting changes are well documented to be ignored at great risk.

TRAINING MODULE 4

How AI is being deployed at media companies

Thursday, September 18 | 14:30-16:00 (Cape Town)

Every media agenda has AI at the top. Journalists largely sit on the foe side, viewing the threat to journalism (and jobs) and the challenge to deliver truth to their audiences who may or may not be discerning towards media freedom. Media companies will need to adapt and re-look at the value they offer as AI is not simply another competitor but an emotionless entity successfully communicating the data it has been fed with unmatched speed. Media management tend to see AI as a friend — the opportunity to reduce headcount by automation, content revisions, editing, brainstorming, and re-writes. The opportunity to cut deals with tech companies adds cash to a largely struggling media in Africa and elsewhere, too. INMA’s reports and insights on AI will assist the navigation to sift the pros and cons before decisions are made.
