TThe Norwegian daily VG has been at the forefront of the transition from print to multi-media for much of the past decade. The Schibsted-owned newspaper has been an innovator the past four decades in print and has been an industry leader in digital development the past decade. Key to its strategy: keep print and online separate and let their teams maximize what each platform does best.
Torry Pedersen is at the center of this strategy and in March will add CEO to his editor-in-chief title — and along with it will come a reversal of the decade-old strategy and an integration of print and online. Pedersen will address the INMA World Congress Tuesday, May 17, and talk about the integration.
Pedersen said recently the reason for the strategy reversal was the development of the news ecology, which is becoming more and more fragmented. While there isn’t a strict roadmap moving forward, he wants to reduce the divide between print and digital. He acknowledges that “to handle the transformation will be a demanding task.”
In New York, INMA World Congress delegates will look inside that transformation and see what can be learned.
